Political prisoner Malchanau will be released on 13 July

After the release preventive surveillance will be established after the political prisoner.

Aliaksandr Malchanau is serving the punishment terms at a penal colony in Navasady near Barysau and is supposed to be released in five days.

A court’s proceeding took place at the colony on 4 July, which decided to establish half a year of preventive surveillance after Aliaksanr Malchanau. An activist Taciana Kim reported about that, when Aliaksanr Malchanau called her after the trial, Radio Svaboda reports.

“He is very disappointed, since the preventive surveillance breaks him plans on resuming his studies in Minsk already this year. He said that they had been partial towards him, put pressure on him and on witnesses. He named the surname of the colony’s regime department Aleh Balabalau, - Taciana Kim said.

We would remind that Aliaksanr Malchanau was sentenced to 1.5 years in a high security penal colony on 9 April 2012. He was accused of violating the part 2 of the article 205 of the Criminal Code (repeated theft, or a theft by a group of people, or involving penetration of an accommodation). Allegedly he together with Arciom Ihnacikau stole scrap metal from the territory of the blacksmith’s plant of heavy stamping in Zhodzina. At the same time Aliaksanr Malchanau did not acknowledge his guilt in the theft. The political prisoner said that he did not dismantle the equipment, but only collected rusty metal object at the territory of the workshop, which had been out of order for many years.

After Malchanau had been sentenced for the events of 19 December 2010, he could not find a job. They would not hire him anywhere, despite that he previously had worked at Barysau repair and engineering works, hydraulic amplifier plant and BATE. Scrap metal collection was his only way of making for living.

At the beginning of 2000s After Malchanau was an activist of Zubr movement. He took park in the protest action against the falsification of the elections results on 19 December 2010. He was detained on 6 January 2011 at his home in Barysau. He was accused of participating in mass disturbances and the insult of the official flag, which he tore down off the KGB building.

On 2 March 2011 a judge of the court of Minsk’s Frunze district Taciana Charkas sentenced Malchanau to 3 years in a high security penal colony. He served the punishment in the colony number 15 in Mahilou. He was released according to Lukashenka’s decree.
