KGB offers jobs

Unusual guests visited a scheduled work meeting at Neman shopping centre in Hrodna.

A representative of the security services addressed the audience at the end of the meeting. One of the employees told charter97.org that he didn't speak about recruiting secret informers. The KGB officer offered jobs at the security agencies for husbands, brothers and friends of employees. The requirements only included higher education, lack of a criminal record and reliability.

It is not absolutely clear what he meant under “reliability”, but the cause that made security officers to use this method of recruitment looks even less clear. Either the Hrodna KGB department continues to increase personnel behind the back of national campaign to reduce the number of civil servants or the KGB needs employees so badly that it has to use this “uncovered” method of recruiting. Did last year's reduction on the order of the Belarusian dictator affect the KGB so much that it looks for new personnel? Or people are leaving the KGB? It's difficult to say.

Taking into account the specific nature of working for security services, one can find funny the clumsiness of their recruitment methods. Perhaps it won't be a surprise to find vacancies “intelligence officer” or “counter-intelligence officer” in a local advertising newspaper.
