Priest Lazar’s sister: I cannot talk, we are wiretapped

Janina Lazar, the sister of the arrested catholic priest, has started avoiding contacts with journalists after visiting Minsk on 13 August.

In Minsk she was supposed to meet brother’s counsel, however she refuses to talk about the outcomes of the meeting, referring to being busy and hangs up the phone, the Telegraph reports.

At the same time the woman told a civic activist Hanna Shaputska, who is one of the organizers of the round table on the issue of the priest’s KGB detention scheduled on 15 August, that Uladzislau Lazar felt well.

“I cannot tell anything else. It is not a phone conversation. We are wiretapped”, - Janina Lazar claimed and hanged up, Hanna Shaputska told a Telegraph’s reporter.

The priest’s sister has also refused to participate in the round table.

We would remind that on 26 July Lukashenka told about a detention of a special service agent, “who was linked to foreign states via representatives of the Catholic Church, and not only did he leak information, but people working abroad suffered from his activities”.

On the following day it became known that around a month before that a priest Uladzislau Lazar, the abbot of the Saint Spirit’s Descent parish in Barysau, had been arrested.

It is Vatican’s apostolic nuncio in Belarus Claudio Gugerotti who negotiates with the authorities on this issue.
