Leonid Kuchma: Minsk agreements show Russia cannot keep word

7

The Geneva format involving the US should be used to solve the conflict in Donbas.

The Minsk agreements prove that Russia cannot keep its word. The Minsk memorandum is the best document that could be signed, former president of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma said to Channel 5.

“Putin shows the world what his words are worth. If Russia does not fulfill what it signed, it shows its real face to the world,” he said.

According to Ukraine's former president, there's no sense in meeting with separatists and Russia's representatives in the previous former. A third party should be involved in negotiations.

“I am convinced that we should move to the Geneva format involving the US. But Russia is against it. It's one thing when an ambassador signs documents in Minsk. But it's another thing when you have to answer for your actions at a different level,” Kuchma added.

Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov earlier said the Geneva format to find a solution to the Ukrainian crisis without representatives of the “DNR” and “LNR” was a closed chapter.
