Flowers and candles regularly appear at Taras Shevchenko monument in Minsk.
This is what a writer Sviatlana Aleksijevich told in an interview to Nasha Niva as she commented of Russian troops’ invasion in the neighboring country.
“I cannot tell anything new about the Ukrainian situation. Of course, it is Russia and its imperial ambitions, - Sviatlana Aleksijevich said. – However, if we speak about Ukraine, I would very much not want to criticize the new government, its mistakes, the mistakes of democrats. I would very much not like to speak ill of the new authorities. Neither is there the desire to say banalities. I live in the center, not far from Shevchenko monument, and to me the most important is that every evening is literally covered with flowers, people bring candles. This is very important that Belarusians support Ukraine”. We would remind in the recent days Russian troops have occupied the whole territory of the Crimea, and in the cities in the East of Ukraine provocations keep going against the country’s new authorities.
