Sikorski: Aim of militants' offensive in Donbas is changing power in Ukraine

The situation in Ukraine remains complicated in what concerns the implementation of the Minsk agreement.

The statement was made by Radoslaw Sikorski, the speaker of the Polish Sejm and former minister of foreign affairs, RIA Novosti reports.

“We don't have full information now. There are reports about shooting, but if it comes to an attack (by separatists) on Mariupol, we will have to admit the failure of the implementation of the agreement,” the Polish politician said on the air of TVN24 Biznes i Swiat.

According to Sikorski, “Ukraine is in a very difficult situation, both in the short and long term”. The speaker of the Polish Sejm noted that Warsaw used the “historical window and managed to integrate with the western institutions, but Ukraine waisted time”. “I think the aim of the actions in eastern Ukraine is the change of power in Ukraine,” Sikorski said.

A package of measures on the conflict in Donbas was adopted in Minsk at the talks of the Normandy Four (Ukraine, Russia, Germany and France) on February 12. The agreement provides for a ceasefire since February 15 and pulling back heavy weapons from the combat zone, as well as the OSCE monitoring of the implementation of the ceasefire.

Militants do not observe the agreement and continue to attack.
