“Voice of Russia”: Belarusian dictator gets short of funds

11

The policy of the Belarusian ruler leaves serious Western investors asking questions.

As “Voice of Russia” reminds, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has turned its back on Belarus. Since early 2010 the influential finance organization has not approved any Belarusian projects.

The problem goes to a political level here, Director General of Agency for Political and Economic Communications (APECOM) Dmitry Orlov is convinced.

“Lukashenka’s policy, the policy of maneuvering between the EU and Russia has come to a deadlock. It is known that he is trying to boost the stakes by an aggressive dialogue, by scandals. He is trying to raise his stakes in the West, in particular in the EU, by more and more aggressive actions against Russia. However, the West is in no hurry to embower Lukashenka, is not going to respond to his movements quickly,” Orlov said to the Voice of Russia.

The situation is to get worse still: Western partners are expecting moves of which Minsk is not capable in such a situation, Dmitry Orlov notes:

“The West is expecting increasingly close cooperation in the sphere of foreign policy, economic changes, in particular, investment climate, changes in the political situation in the country. But liberalization which is necessary for interests of the European Union, contradicts interests of Lukashenka. He is in a stalemate today. And this policy of aggressive maneuvering ends in a crisis”.

Properly speaking, the decision of the EBRD to freeze cooperation with Belarus has made it clear that Western investors do not want to participate in these political games.
