Two unknown people threw petrol bombs at the Russian embassy in Minsk at night August 31.

The information is spread by RIA Novosti with a link to a representative of Emergency Ministry of Belarus.

The4 incident occurred at midnight (Moscow time). One of the bottles struck a car standing in the territory of the embassy. The Ministry’s representative says “there wasn’t a big fire” and no firefighters were called. ITAR-TASS news agency informs referring to eyewitnesses that the car was burnt.

According to Lenta.ru new agency, no people were hurt. Officers of the Belarusian law-enforcement bodies arrived at the site.

Vadim Gusev, the Russian Embassy spokesman, confirmed to BelaPAN that a bottle with flammable liquid was thrown at the embassy at night August 30/31.

According to him, the bomb hit the car in the parking space. “The bottle got inside the car. It was burnt. The details of the incident are being cleared out, more information will be available later,” Gusev said.

The Minsk militia is looking for the assailants, who threw a number of Molotov cocktails at the Russian Embassy.

“We suppose the hooligan actions, namely throwing one or two petrol bombs, were committed by two malefactors. We are searching for them now,” Alyaksandr Lastouski, the head of the press service of the Main militia directorate of Minsk, told Interfax-Zapad news agency Tuesday.

He noted a criminal case under article 339 of the Criminal Code of Belarus (Hooliganism) may be opened. The militia representative said a car left near the embassy was damaged hit by a petrol bomb.
