Zimouski proposes depriving opposition activists of citizenship

An odious ideologist of the Lukashenka regime and former head of the Belarusian State TV and Radio Company proposed a scandalous initiative.

Pondering over a great number of democratic activists banned from leaving Belarus for their calls to impose sanctions on the dictatorship for human rights violations, Alyaksandr Zimouski wrote in an article on the website of “Belorusskie Novosti” newspaper:

“However, the required decisions are obvious. You need only to read article 18 of the Law on Citizenship of the USSR and return this norm to the Belarusian legislation. But now the fussy movements look ridiculous if not paradoxical. Staying in Belarus without an opportunity to leave the country appears to be a heavy punishment. Both the authorities and the opposition have a full consensus on the issue.

Giving the state a legal right to deprive people of such unquestioned happiness as being a citizen of Belarus can allow to cool down hot heads of the 'fifth column'. On the contrary, the people stubborn in their unwillingness to accept the 'bloody regime' can found themselves useful on a wider political field. In diaspora, they will show themselves as missioners of democracy and implement their boldest ideas in the places where they are unknown and welcomed.”

As charter97.org already reported, Zimouski for many years has been on the list of dictator Lukashenka's henchmen restricted from entering the EU countries.
