Minsk airport employees getting ready to be fired

Half of the employees are on a sick leave, many are going to quit by winter.

Employees of the national airport Minsk and border guards working there shared that with journalists, Zautra Tvajoj Krainy reports.

“You should not have come so early – you will freeze”, - the airport’s employees tell passengers while apologizing. There is no heating in the building. There will be none until spring.

“Half of the employees are on a sick leave. We are frightened to think how it will be in winter, when it starts freezing. Tourists, coming from resorts, freeze in a moment. But we cannot do anything about that”, - one of the border guards shrugs.

In the personal inspection hall there are, though, heaters, but the airport’s employees still wear warm winter jackets.

The airport’s reconstruction is one of the most large-scale investment suggestions of the capital. The building’s total area is about 75 thousand square meters. Out of them almost half needs to be reconstructed. Mainly these are the premises for serving passengers and luggage: changes are expected in the arrivals zone (1-2 floors) and departures zone (3-4 floors).

Heat insulation and a general renovation of the whole building are scheduled. Apart from that the modernization of engendering networks are on the plan – from changing the sewage system to providing the internet. The project also provides for modern interior designs of the passenger lounges.

The airport administration’s report says that in 2012 the modernization of heat supply, access control and surveillance systems tool place as well as a complex improvement of the area in front of the airport.

But as you are approaching the airport, it seems that the renovation only begins.

Construction works go on even late in the evening.

The renovation has also created inconveniences for motorists.

There are two paid car parkings at the airports for 150 and 1180 cars. However in summer they did not manage to cope with the huge flow of cars. People had to park in the field and walk to the terminal with suitcases.
