Miechyslau Lysy is Lukashenka’s puppet

After the appointment of a new chairman the official Union of the Poles will remain a marginal organization, which does not have real support.

A journalist of the Polish Gazeta Wyborcza Andrzej Pachobut commented for the charter97.org web-site on the appointment of Miechyslau Lysy (in the picture) as a chairman of the Union of the Poles of Belarus.

“Actually Miechyslau Lysy is an official, appointed by the Belarusian authorities, and his task is to carry out the orders that he receives from Lukashenka’s administration and also from the commissioner for religion and national minorities issues. This is not an independent person, who decided something. We can say that it is Lukashenka’s puppet”, - the journalist believes.

He is sure that the official Union of the Poles is a marginal organization, which has absolutely no support among the Poles, who live in Belarus.

“If the authorities stopped supporting the pro-Lukashenka union and did not make the leaders of this pseudo-organization hold conventions, it would have disappeared long ago. The authorities want to have such an association to be able to say that everything is okay with the Polish minority. This is nothing more than ideological and propagandistic service to the regime of Lukashenka. Nothing will change in the relations between the unrecognized Union of the Poles and the official one. Our union is an independent institution, which takes its decisions independently and for this reason not recognized by Belarusian authorities”, - Andrzej Pachobut concluded.

We would remind that from 2005 there are two Unions of the Poles in the country: the official one, supporting the policies of the Belarusian leadership, and the unofficial one, which Belarusian authorities refuse registration, but which is supported by Warsaw and an activist of which Andrzej Pachobut is. The informal Union of the Poles is headed by Miechyslau Jaskievich. Its members undergo repressions on the part of the official authorities.
